Ballad Spotlight: “Under Summer Skies” by In The Pink

Velvety piano-forward ballad by a little-known band from Boston

This is one of those ballads I came across totally by accident while researching songs for this website. The song Under Summer Skies is from their 2018 album U Got What U Wanted.

Formed in 1986 in Boston, the lineup once featured Pat Badger of Extreme. A record contract came in 1990, only to fall apart when the label parted ways with their A&R guy. The band officially disbanded in 1993 following the emergence of Grunge, but reunited in 2018 for a benefit to help a fan named Kiva who was battling cancer. Sadly, Kiva lost her battle in 2020, but her smile could light the darkest of rooms.

Kiva and the band

The band’s Facebook Page was last active in 2021. At any rate, this is a top-notch ballad and the album is available on Amazon, iTunes, Spotify and Apple Music.

In 2020 lead vocalist Tommy Dempsey released a solo album entitled Eleven : Eleven.

I will be working on getting them added to the database on heavyharmonies.com.
